5th Annual Sessions of Dietitians’ Association of Sri Lanka

The Fifth Annual session of the Dietitians’ Association of Sri Lanka 2019 was held on the 6th & 7th of December 2019 at Hotel Miraj, Colombo 06. The theme of the session was “Optimizing the Future Excellence in Nutrition and Food Science in Sri Lanka”. Honorable Minister, Widura Wickramanayake, Minister of Agriculture was the chief guest for the event.
Key note speaker for the 5 th Annual session of Dietitians’ Association of Sri Lanka was Ms. Sheela Krishnaswamy, ICDA board member, representative for India. Including the Keynote speaker , there were several featured guest speakers who shared their knowledge and experience on different interesting topics,

  • Ms.Sheela Krishnaswamy, Board of Director of International Confederation of Dietetic Associations (ICDA), presented an informative speech on “Nutraceutical and Functional foods in health promotion
  • Ms.Meenakshi Bajaj, Senior Dietitian, Tamil Nadu Govt. Hospital, made a valuable speech on “Diabetes Insights: Pathogenesis of Complications and Metabolic Surgery as  a Treatment’.
  • Dr.Ananda Chandrasekara , Senior Lecturer, Department of Applied Nutrition, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka    delivered a important talked on  “ Where the Latest Science Meet for safe and Healthy Rice”
  • Dr.R.N.G.P.Rajanayake , City Analyst, CMC, made a speech on “Safe, Clean and Good Quality Foods is essential in maintaining good health, Regulatory Gaps and Future Controls”                             
  • Dr.Gamika Prathapasinghe, Senior Lecturer, Department of Livestock and Avian Sciences, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, made a valuable presentation on  “New Innovations to tap Nature’s diversity for Tomorrow’s Food Products” 
  • Prof. Madujith Senior Lecturer, Department of Food Science and Technology, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka made a informative speech on “Natural toxins in Food”.

 

In addition, there were three panel discussion sessions which enable audience to actively present their questions and views to these speakers. These three sessions were chaired by well qualified academics in the field of nutrition from Wayamba University of Sri Lanka namely Prof. Renuka Silva, Prof. Anoma Chandrasekara and Dr. Kumari M. Rathnayake.
