Dietitians’ Association
of Sri Lanka
Founded on 15th November 2012, the Dietitians’ Association of Sri Lanka (DASL) is the professional body representing qualified dietitians in the country. We are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of practice in nutrition and dietetics, improving national health, and promoting ethical and evidence-based care.
We are officially registered under the Companies Act No. 07 of 2007.

How to Become a
Qualified Dietitian
To become a qualified Dietitian in Sri Lanka you have to obtain following qualifications. Four years bachelor’s degree in dietetics, food and nutritional science or human nutrition from a recognized university (Notice by the Chairman, University grants Commission of Sri Lanka, 18 December 2008 ) accepted by the council.

Recognized University
Your degree must be from a university approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka, ensuring it's officially accepted for professional practice.
Bachelor's Degree Requirement
To qualify as a dietitian in Sri Lanka, you need a 4-year degree in dietetics, food and nutritional science, or human nutrition. This covers key areas like nutrition, health, and clinical practice.
Who is a Dietitian?
A dietitian is a healthcare professional who is formally trained and qualified in the field of nutrition and dietetics. They assess, diagnose, and treat nutritional issues, using their expertise to support individuals in achieving optimal health. By translating the latest scientific research into practical dietary advice, dietitians help people make informed food and lifestyle choices. Their work spans a variety of settings, including hospitals, public health institutions, community programs, and sports organizations.
Types of Dietitians:

Clinical Dietitians: Focus on patient care in hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes

Who is a Nutritionist?
A nutritionist is a professional who provides evidence-based guidance on food, nutrition, and healthy eating habits. They play a key role in promoting overall health and well-being across various sectors. Nutritionists often work in public health initiatives, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government and policy-making bodies, as well as in education, research, and health promotion programs. Their work focuses on improving dietary practices at both individual and community levels.
